MRED Responds with Responsive Design

 
By now you’ve seen all of our communications about the new Modern/Mobile Friendly Client Portal in connectMLS.  You might be wondering what the excitement is about.

MRED has discovered that almost fifty percent (50%) of consumers who receive listings sent from connectMLS use a mobile device to view them.  For example, in April 2014 alone, there were almost one million consumer accesses via iPhone.  These numbers are staggering, and are going to do nothing but increase.  

The evidence is clear.  Everyone is migrating to mobile.  Saying that your website and other customer facing interaction on the Internet must be “mobile friendly” is cliché.  

MRED, in partnership with its MLS vendor, dynaConnections, has committed to making connectMLS™ “mobile friendly”.  “Responsive Design” is the term that is used to describe sites that provide an optimal viewing experience on all mobile devices.  It is easier to read and navigate these sites, with a minimum of resizing, panning and scrolling.  

Here’s how it works.  When Brokers email their clients properties from connectMLS™ that meet their search criteria, the email contains a link that takes the client to their own website, called a Client Portal.  This is where the properties of interest reside for their review.  These emails can be done manually or as a part of automated searches set up by Brokers for their clients.  

As a first step, MRED has gone live with the Modern or “Mobile Friendly” Client Portal.  This gives MRED real estate professionals the ability to send their clients listings from connectMLS™ viewable in a mobile-friendly or responsive environment.  “Mobile Friendly” reports are easy and convenient to read on the devices people use now more than ever, and remain as easy to read as ever on a desktop or laptop.

Migrating connectMLS™ to Responsive Design is a huge project. MRED and dynaConnections have decided to transition in stages allowing for the introduction of useful modifications to the MLS system as they are completed over time, rather than waiting for an entire overhaul to be done.
